Mentor Coordinator Report

Stories & Quotes To Share:

New Year, New Me”

New year resolutions have already failed for most people by the time of this report. However, for every rule there is an exception, and two men have determined to make this new start count. A mentor and mentee have decided to try to learn a new skill this year. Spending their time each week meeting and talking about their newfound hobby. They have been giving each other homework to complete each week. Mentorship can look different for each match, but mutual homework is a rare sight in any Be the One program. Only time will tell if they continue, but for any new year resolution to make it to February is impressive.

“Relaxation”

Each mentor match here at LMS have preferred activities for their time together. Some matches play games and track wins and losses over the course of the year. Other matches prefer going outside to walk or throw around a football, using their meeting time as a fun excuse to get some exercise. Some matches choose to pursue the arts: Drawing, painting, crafting and even practicing musical instruments. As I was walking around to check on matches, I found a pair engaged in a wholly unique activity, relaxing. I walked into a small room where they were having their meeting to find both mentor and mentee slumped on the table with their faces down, listening to music. I asked what they were doing, and only received a single word. “Relaxing.”
