Strengthening Communities Through Mentoring: one relationship at a time

Ferndale High School – February 2026

Mentor Coordinator Report

Stories & Quotes To Share:

Mentors of seniors are realizing how soon their time is coming up.  Some of our matches have been together for 4 years and are feeling all of the emotions with letting go.  Quite a few have expressed how important it is to have their mentor guide and listen to them.  Some of the seniors have a clear and defined path for next year and others are struggling with all of the choices they have.  One of my mentees said “I am glad my mentor said college is not for everyone.  Trade school or working is a great path if you are unsure of what you want to do.  They did not make me feel bad for not wanting to go to college.”  It is so important to be open and listen to your mentee.  What you chose to do is not necessarily best for them.

Highlights:
February was a fun month. We had some crafts for Kindness Week and Valentine’s. Everyone loved doing the scratch off Heart craft. You made a design and once you scratched it off it had a beautiful pattern under it, outlined in black. Some of the mentees were really creative. It was a fun craft that one of our mentees recommended. We also had cute pink paper and envelopes that people could write a little note to a friend or family member to give them. Really uplifting crafts this month. We also had 2 mentors join their mentees in class and make pizza.
