Be the One Goes to Market!
The NW Workforce Development Council announced that labor shortages may be critical over the next 5 years in our region. One major cause is limited meaningful “first job” opportunities for young people.
Through Be the One READY high school students earn credit as they spend a semester of classroom time working alongside their Marketplace Mentor in a local business enterprise. This unpaid placement provides a golden opportunity for business owners to groom the next generation of skilled workers for employment. Sponsoring Businesses benefit as students bring their acquired skills from the classroom to the “lab”. Students can bring skills in:
- Robotics, 3D Engineering, Woodworking, Welding, Manufacturing,
- Microsoft Office, Banking & Investing, Accounting, Marketing,
- Healthcare,
- Horticulture, Landscaping, Agriculture, Animal Science,
- Fashion & Apparel, Flower Arrangement, Culinary,
- Web Design, Graphic Arts and Live Production.
Be the One READY students benefit from instruction and hands on experience in a work environment with their Marketplace Mentor. Students will be available to work, observe and learn approximately 4-10 hours a week depending on the needs of the business and the student’s availability. Scheduled hours will fall between 12 and 5 PM with the students providing their own transportation.
While future employment for the student may be the outcome, the main objective is for the students to acquire skills and work ethics in the context of a mentoring relationship with a caring adult.
