Strengthening Communities Through Mentoring: one relationship at a time

Lynden Christian School – April 2025

Mentor Coordinator Report

Closing a Chapter: Be the One at LC

After thoughtful discussions and prayer, BTO leadership and LC administration have agreed to sunset the BTO program at LC. While our community-based model has served students well, it hasn’t proven sustainable in this context. LC will be returning to a small-group discipleship model, which has already seen strong participation and positive outcomes this year.

As we approach the end of the school year, I’ve been having meaningful conversations with our mentors and mentees about transitions and what next year may bring. This year, five mentoring pairs have been actively engaged in the Be the One (BTO) program at LC. Among them, we have two seniors preparing for graduation, one mentoring pair transitioning their relationship off-campus, and three pairs planning to continue meeting next year under the guidance of LCHS counselor, Kayla Heatwole.

We know consistency is key, especially during times of change. While next year will look different, we’re so grateful that Kayla Heatwole is committed to supporting the continuation of mentoring for the three pairs who wish to carry on. I’ve assured them they’ll have access to their favorite crafts, games, and resources to help keep the joy and connection alive.

We’re incredibly thankful for the time, care, and heart invested by every mentor, student, and supporter of BTO at LC. As we close this chapter, we do so with gratitude—and with hope for what’s next.
