Strengthening Communities Through Mentoring: one relationship at a time

Ferndale High School – April 2025

Mentor Coordinator Report

Stories & Quotes To Share:

April was a great month for us at FHS.  We started off with BTO interviews right after spring break. Hearing from many of our mentees and mentors on what this program has done for them.  A common theme was “my mentor is a safe space, easy to talk to and not judgmental”.

One of my favorite quotes from a student was “I would not be here, about to graduate, without the support of my mentor”.

Mentors shared that they enjoy talking to someone younger and being a good listener.   All in all, the interviews were a highlight for all of us.

Highlights:

FHS BTO continues to grow at a fast pace. Just when I thought we were done making new matches for the year, we added a few more to the mix. Students at FHS see what a great program this is and want to join. Everyone needs a supportive adult in their life, and they realize it.

We also had PROM in April, and for the girls, it was all about sharing the magic of the night. They love showing pictures of their dresses to their mentors and reliving every detail of the experience—because these days, PROM is truly an event to remember.

Upcoming:

May is an exciting month for our mentoring program! As the school year winds down, mentoring pairs will take a special walk to Edaleen’s, where they’ll enjoy free ice cream generously donated by the dairy. This tradition is always a highlight—an opportunity for mentors and mentees to step off campus, savor a sweet treat, and create lasting memories together. It’s a meaningful way to celebrate their time together before saying farewell for the summer.
In addition to this cherished outing, we’ll gather for the BTO Year-End Celebration in the library on May 23rd. With snacks and drinks provided, everyone will have a chance to connect, reminisce, and enjoy the camaraderie of our mentoring community. It’s the perfect way to wrap up the year and reflect on the relationships built along the way.

Number of Current Matches: 55
