STORIES TO SHARE/ GENERAL UPDATE:
Seven pairs concluded their meetings for the year during the last week of May. One match will complete this week (the first week of June), and one will presumably finish out the year during the last week of school. We have two seniors graduating, and the remaining six matches have hopes of continuing next school year. Four pairs were able to capitalize on the opportunity to enjoy a beautiful night out on the bay!
On May 20th, LC pairs were invited to attend a boat cruise with Lynden Middle School and Lynden High School pairs to mark the celebration of another successful mentoring year. Pairs who weren’t able to make it will be able to/ were offered the opportunity to enjoy ice cream or a treat together! I know that many of the students are bummed to not be seeing their mentors weekly over summer, but I am offering ways to continue providing that needed connection despite the physical distance.
I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to watch relationships form and grow between our students and their mentors.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENTS/ UPDATES/ NEEDS:
• All nine LC students took part in an end of year interview with Nancy or Denny McHarness. I was able to take notes of all nine conversations, and am again encouraged by the impact mentoring is having on students at LC.
• I sent out an end of year survey to both mentors and mentees and information has been trickling in. I love getting the feedback and I hope to utilize it well as we plan to grow.
• I continue to compile lists of names of possible mentors and mentees to contact when school resumes in the fall. Let’s keep spreading the word!
UPCOMING PLANS:
• End of year meeting with area coordinators.
• Sending an email to middle school staff to start compiling recommendations for incoming 9th graders that I will reach out to at the beginning of next school year.
• Program planning for the 2022-2023 school year, setting goals, and planning for ways to reach more mentors and students in the fall.
• Last day of school is June 9.
