Strengthening Communities Through Mentoring: one relationship at a time

Ferndale High School – January 2026

Mentor Coordinator Report

Stories & Quotes To Share:

January was a short month for us due to days off and finals.  What was special for us was the amount of mentors who went to watch their mentee at a school event.  We had 2 mentors attend the choir concert, 5 mentors attended their student’s wrestling match and another mentor went to watch their mentee play basketball.  Showing up for your mentee like this is so impactful.  Most of the mentees came up and told me all about it.  “I cannot believe they came to support me”   “It meant a lot to me, I don’t have family in the area so no one usually comes” “I did better because they were there”

I just want to thank all of them for coming out and supporting their mentee, it means more than you know.

Highlights:
The few days we had matches were fun. I tried to have cocoa or hot cider for those that met in the library- cookies on a few occasions as well. Our mentor John brought in new games in December and people are loving them. I might get a bit competitive at Rummikube- beware.

Students had finals and a 4 day weekend to enjoy after them. Those were the highligts. We also had a New Mentor Orientation- one person has signed up to mentor from that.

Upcoming:
We are just starting a new semester so matches will start up again February 2. We have a 4 day weekend this month and Kindness Week- we will have some fun crafts to do in honor of that.

We have a 4 day weekend this month- February 13-16th.

Mentor Equipping Session on February 9th from 6:30pm-8:00pm or February 10th from 9am-10:30am at Lynden Middle School, the topic is Setting Boundaries.

Number of Current Matches: 53
