Mentor Coordinator Report

Stories & Quotes To Share:
The Highlight of His Week
One of our newer mentors recently shared that, with the demands of his high-stress, remote career, spending time with his mentee has become the ‘highlight of his week’. Hearing that meant so much—it’s a reminder of how meaningful these connections can be, not just for our students, but for our mentors as well. In fact, he has been so moved by his mentoring experience that he referred a friend to become a mentor at NVHS, too.
Creating Comfort & Connection
At the start of the year, I was given a space for my matches to meet—originally a dusty, cluttered storage room. With limited time and budget, I transformed it into a functional and welcoming area, complete with a teapot, cocoa, cider, puzzles, games, and even some cozy chairs. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s already making an impact.
On Wednesdays, our counseling intern uses the space and loves it. She’s shared that students now ask to meet there. One student even said they appreciated the lack of windows—since it helps with their migraines. That comment made my day! I’m so glad this little space can serve not just mentors and mentees, but other students in our building as well.
My office has also become a comfy hangout for students. Recently, a mentor walked in and said, “It feels like home in here.” That meant so much to me. Creating a space where kids feel welcomed, comfortable, and cared for is truly one of my top priorities.
