Max and Greg’s Story:
A current freshman, Max met his mentor, Greg, in middle school after his older sisters told him about Be the One. He was hoping for an adult friend who could support him and give advice. He and Greg enjoy playing chess, cribbage, and sometimes old school computer games together while talking. During remote school, Max felt really isolated and wasn’t able to see Greg for several months. They happily reconnected this spring: “It was so good to see him again! I really missed him a lot.” Max says Greg made a big impact on his ability to socialize with others. “When we first met, I was really quiet, and he would teach me to add details to conversation and say more than just ‘yeah’. Now it is easier for me to have conversations and talk to adults.” He says Greg helps him be a better student as well.

It really takes many individuals and a community to support kids, families and schools, and I love connecting the critical dots. Every child can benefit from a caring adult mentor”
