Matt and Todd’s Story:
Matt has been able to work with two Be the One Mentors during high school. As a freshman who had recently lost his mom to cancer and moved across the country to Lynden, he thought he would like to have a mentor to talk to. He bonded with Curtis over their shared love of music and playing wind instruments in band. When Curtis died of cancer a year later, Matt wanted another mentor to support him and met Todd. This new mentoring relationship barely had a chance to get off the ground before covid hit. Fortunately, Matt and Todd were able to connect around a shared love of sports and get permission to continue meeting off campus. They talk on a regular basis and go out for lunch every two weeks or so.
