Lynden High School December 2024

Mentor Coordinator Report

Stories & Quotes To Share:

Hoodies are here:

All month, students have been stopping by with one question in mind: “When do I get my hoodie?” On December 12th, after receiving 5 large boxes containing all our BTO merchandise, I was able to say “Today!”  Once the word spread, I had delighted students showing up to get their shirts. One pair loved their matching hoodies and insisted on putting them on right away and getting a photo together.  By Friday morning, many students had them on at school.  Everyone enjoyed the new color options and cozy material.

 ‘Tis the Season:

Mentors and students enjoyed touring the LHS hall decorations, marveling at the creativity and transformation of the school while taking photos and videos together.  Many matches also enjoyed designing and making Christmas ornaments together to take home or gift to others.  We hosted a fun Mentor Café Day at Inn at Lynden, soaking in the holiday cheer in their beautiful, cozy lobby, sharing snacks and mentoring tips by the fireplace.  Special thanks to the Inn for sharing your space with us.

 Transfer Schools, Keep Mentor:

One of my freshman girls came in last week to tell me she was leaving LHS and that TODAY was her last day.  Her biggest concern about switching schools was getting in touch with her mentor.  They met in 6th grade and have a long history together.  In her words, “I was not in a good spot then, but my mentor has been with me through all the hard things.  She is always supportive and kind.”  Fortunately, she was transferring to Ferndale High School, so she could take her Be the One Mentor with her.  The match met last week at her new school without missing a beat.
