Strengthening Communities Through Mentoring: one relationship at a time

Ferndale High School – May

Mentor Coordinator Report

Stories & Quotes To Share:

As the year is coming to an end it has been an emotional time for many of our students.  Listening to the students open up about their mentors during the interviews was one of my highlights of the year.  Some of the quotes that stood out to me:

  • I would not be here today, about to graduate without my mentor.
  • My mentor helped shaped who I am today.I appreciate having a positive male role model
  • Thank you for being a steady present in my life

These are just a few of things mentioned by our students.  Ferndale has amazing mentors and I am thankful for them.

This year, our mentoring pairs had a sweet (or caffeinated!) send-off with a choice of an off-campus outing to Edaleen for ice cream or Mug Shots for coffee. This popular farewell activity offered a wonderful opportunity to deepen their connections, create a lasting memory, and share a final thank you before summer break.

A huge thank you goes out to Edaleen for their incredibly generous donation of ice cream for our mentoring pairs!

Highlights:
• Edaleen/Mug Shots Field Trips-happened all month
• Senior Recognition- we made gift bags for all the seniors & mentors
• End of Year Party-May 30 we had an open house style party with food, beverages and prizes
(Starbucks donated some tumblers)

Upcoming:
• Graduation June 6: 10 BTO students graduating
• Mentor/Mentee end of year surveys and final report

Number of Current Matches: 55
