Mentor Coordinator Report

Stories & Quotes To Share:

Taught him too well

Chess is a popular game among mentors and mentees. A lot of students like teaching the game to their mentors and vice versa. This month, a mentee began to teach the mentor about the game and spent a couple of meetings beating him over and over. In their last meeting of the month however, the mentor took revenge and pulled off the upset against the mentee. The mentee was excited that the mentor beat him….. The first time… When he beat him a second time? They returned the chess set to my office and played other games for the rest of the meeting.

Christmas Show and Tell

A lot of students came back from Christmas break with stories and presents to share with their mentors. Many of the matches spent their first meeting back showing pictures, videos and presents. One mentee brought a handmade craft for her mentor as a surprise, while the mentor had done the same. They both ended up surprised and happy!

January is a month of new beginnings and fresh starts! As such, I spent a lot of the month expanding the student wait list and preparing new matches. The health class visits, new posters and word of mouth has increased the number of students interested in the program. A lot of students came by with questions, accepted slips and brought their friends. With all the new students on the list, the biggest need of the program at LMS is mentors.
