“The Weather outside is frightful”
November has arrived! The first trimester of the middle school year has officially ended and new classes start the day before the break. This is all very exciting, and students have been looking forward to the holidays. However, the weather has become very wet and cold. A lot of matches who enjoy playing outside have found themselves forced to entertain themselves indoors. This has led to a lot of interest in games and art! Sketches and crafts have been a holiday staple for Be the One in the past. As December approaches, homemade Christmas ornaments, crafts and sweets will be offered to matches that want to celebrate the season and memories with each other.
“Uno Reverse”
When most people think of mentoring, they often think about the benefits of the mentee. Wisdom and experience that are passed down from our mentors is invaluable. However, what some people forget is that mentees can pass wisdom and knowledge back to the mentor. This was put on display by a couple of matches this month. One mentee was taking time to explain digital photography tips for their mentor so that they could take better pictures with their phone over the holidays. While another explained a new version of Uno to their mentor so they had a new game to play with family over the break. Mentorship is a valuable asset for mentees and mentors alike.
“Thanksgiving Dinner”
With the Thanksgiving holiday the discussions about plans always come up in the week before the break. Discussions about food, traditions and family dominate conversations while everyone starts preparing to take a little break. A few of the matches discussed non-traditional thanksgiving meals that they enjoy: Tacos, BBQ brisket and spicy curry all made appearances that really showcased the differences and similarities of our matches.
